The San Francisco Fine Art Fair (SFFAF) returns in 2011 as one of the highlights in the Bay Area for contemporary art. In 2010, a rousing 15,000 art enthusiasts lined up and streamed through the fair- after a decade long absence. There was a bursting energy in the air and contagious enthusiasm as attendees were stunned by the museum quality art displayed by the 83 exhibiting galleries. In fact, the spectacular opening night generated 3,000 eager visitors, many of whom were the who's who of the northern California art buying community.

COME CHECK US OUT @ THE AFFORDABLE ART FAIR - MYER GALLERY

Twelve years ago, Will Ramsay changed the model of the traditional art fair by creating the Affordable Art Fair, where contemporary art is accessible to all. Now in ten locations around the world, with the upcoming L.A. fair being the eleventh, Affordable Art Fair proves that you do not need to be an art expert or a billionaire to have original works of art by living artists in your home or office. With the fair taking place in Amsterdam (spring and fall), Bristol, Brussels, London (spring and fall), Los Angeles, Melbourne, Milan, New York (spring and fall), North London, Singapore, and Sydney, over $270 million worth of art has been sold at the fairs. The success of the brand continues with the estimated millionth visitor to the Affordable Art Fair expected in 2011.

PLEASE JOIN ME @ THE FLORIDA CONTMPORARY 2010 EXHIBIT IN THE NAPLE MUSEUM OF ART

This is the museum’s second Florida Contemporary exhibition. Last year, 46 artists and nearly 70 works from all over the state were chosen by the museum’s curator to be included in this intriguing show. From realism to abstraction (and everything in between), the 2010 version of this exhibition will include recognized photographers, painters and sculptors who have spent a lifetime at their craft together with an exciting array of new artists that visitors can “discover” for themselves. While not a definitive record of currently exhibiting Florida artists, Florida Contemporary will serve as an overview of the innovative images, subject matter, techniques and mediums that characterize the work being created in the state today. FLORIDA CONTEMPORARY 2010 — MAY 15-JUNE 26, 2010 This exhibition is organized by the Naples Museum of Art.

LUIS GARCIA-NEREY @ THE GHETTO BIENNALE PORT-AU-PRINCE HAITI

My basic attempt was to construct a shelter-like structure mainly consisting of found objects. The materials were to be gathered in Haiti throughout my stay and were to serve as the structural part of my installation. My work, in general, is loosely based on the theory of Constructionism with an emphasis on Social Construction. The importance of this philosophy lies not in the prior but in the process. For more information please have a look on www.ghettobiennale.com for details of proposal.

BOSQUE III - GILMAN CONTEMPORARY - SUN VALLEY, IDAHO

In their third installment of BOSQUE, artists Luis Garcia-Nerey and Anke Schofield, explore questions on the human construct of the forest and its inhabitants. The exhibition travels to The Gilman Contemporary Gallery in Sun Valley, Idaho, were the artists will present a series of collaborative paintings and installations on November 25th, 2010. In past exhibitions the artists’ focal point have not only been a philosophical one but also one that emphasizes on an aesthetic balance that resonates in their current exhibit. The heart of the series embarks on a journey in which the viewer is presented with a narrative but not a conclusion. In Bosque III, the artists’ perspective on the subject matter allows the audience to preview a familiar environment while challenging them to examine the existence of human and animal Beings. Although the main premise of the exhibit questions the human construct of the forest, it also aims to reveal an infinite source of reference points beset by the tone of the exhibit itself. Whether literal or abstract, Schofield’s and Nerey’s intentions are not to rationalize a specific idea of the forest but rather suggest that the viewer interpret the works on their own without limitations set by concrete definitions.

URBAN FLIGHT - CHERYL HAZAN GALLERY - NEW YORK, NY

For this series of work, I am attempting to simulate the raw aesthetic of today’s urban landscape. The works are primarily based on a conceptual flight examining parts of urban society that are most likely to be overlooked. More specifically, I am referring to the back streets, alleyways, walk throughs, train yards, etc in our cities and their unnoticed beauty. Abandoned and oversaturated with layers of paint, torn ads and graffiti on the walls, these places draw a significant resemblance to the movement and balance of an abstract painting. Usually, these places are considered the backstage of society and are missed or rather, dismissed and unappealing to the eye. Even though, when studied and closely observed, they can be aesthetically beautiful and profound. For me, I see that beauty and I create it within the limits of the canvases. I do this in order to contain the chaos and bring it to an environment in which the works can be viewed without distractions. My intention for this exhibit is to take the participants on a flight, an “urban flight”, in which they can see something familiar in a different social dynamic. By doing this I am commenting on today’s social based importance on beauty and how subjective this ideology is.

BOSQUE II - ASTOLFI ART - ATLANTA, GA

In their second two-person show Astolifi Fine Art Gallery is proud to present BOSQUE 2. In this exhibition, artists Anke Schofield and Luis Garcia-Nerey explore the aesthetics of, and the psychology behind, the forest. In this exhibit, the two artists compare the social dynamics and the hierarchy within forest animals in relations to our own society. Though both artists approach the subject matter in their own way, the premise remains the same. The focus is on how we, in society, collectively interpret the forest and its inhabitants and how this interpretation greatly resembles our own social conventions. Schofield and Nereys’ aim is to expand on those perceptions through visual interactions between the viewer and their paintings. Whether the comparison is literal or abstract their intentions are to invite the viewer to see the similarities between both worlds.
