In his latest installation @ General Audience Present, artist Luis Garcia-Nerey explores his ongoing fascination with interaction through Function + Will. The artist invites the audience to step up onto risers and insert themselves through openings in the ceiling to see what there is above. The installation spans the length of the gallery, dividing it into opposing active and inactive spaces. Within this division, a contrasting point occurs exploring the function of the installation versus the willingness of the audience’s participation. What transpires as a result is a pseudo ritualistic dynamic intended to stir discussion not only on choice and meaning but modern day society and the paradox of religion.
